Our 2023 April Runner Spotlight is on Kevin Painter. Kevin started running in high school and continued running in his military career until an injury that he sustained caused him to stop. He restarted running in 2022 as a way to support his wife, Rachel Lamar, and to start to get back to a healthier lifestyle; both physically and mentally. We interviewed Kevin to learn more about his running journey.

How many events do you do a year?

Kevin: Last year I did about a event a month yet this year I am trying to complete 2-3 per week; so, shooting to be at 100 events by the end of 2023.

Most embarrassing running experience? or biggest accomplishment?

Kevin: My most embarrassing running experience didn’t start out with me running, yet ended with me running in front of the gun line with my pants around my ankles as ants were attacking me.

Something we should know about you?

Kevin: My last name is Painter and I do enjoy art. Rachel and I like to go out to the painting and wine classes then decorate our home with our creations.

If you could run any race, what would it be?

Kevin: The bucket list of races to run includes running with Rachel in every country we visit with Italy happening this fall and to run a 5K at Disneyworld since I’m a big kid at heart.

What keeps you coming back for more of our events?

Kevin: The reason I keep coming back to run Bishop’s Events is the people. The runs are great and are helping me get back into shape yet the community of friends becoming a running family is truly something I value. Each race day I look forward to catching up with friends, sharing in the experience of the run, and staying after the event to catch up, grab a bite to eat, or just hang out.

How has running changed your life?

Kevin: Running is helping me get back to a better place physically and mentally. The friends I have made at the runs have provided me with a running family, a sense of comradery, and reason to hit the ground running on the weekends.

Favorite post run food?

Kevin: Favorite post run food would be In & Out, yet since they are not yet on the east coast I enjoy going out for a post run brunch following a race and enjoy the French Toast or Huevos Rancheros.

Favorite race/course?

Kevin: My favorite course so far is Haines Point as it provides a beautiful view of DC in the morning.

Come see Kevin at one of our upcoming events!
