Our 2023 July Runner Spotlight is on Jessica Norles.  Hear about her story in her own words:

Q: When did you start running? Why did you start running?

A: I started running in 2013 as a way to lose some weight and to get healthier. I started off with a goal of one 5k race a month, but then that goal change to do a half marathon by the end of the year.

Q: How many events a year do you typically do?

A: The half marathon used to be my preferred distance for many years. I would do about 30-40 halfs a year. Then came the COVID pandemic. I totally lost my motivation in running and maybe did 1 or 2 races a year during those years.  However, in 2022, the motivation came back and I finished the year with about 20 races.

Q: Most embarrassing running experience? or biggest accomplishment?

A:My biggest accomplishments have been completing a half in 50 states and DC and 10 Canadian provinces. My next goal is a half on every continent. I’ve done three continents so far. My next continent is Africa to do the Victoria Falls Half in Zimbabwe.

Q: Something we should know about you?

A: I recently lost 50 pounds by eating healthier and being more active.

Q: If you could run any race, what would it be?

A: One day I would like to do the Walt Disney Dopey Challenge.

Q: What keeps you coming back for more of our events?

A: The people!  Everyone I have met has been so supportive and friendly.  I’m one of the back of the pack (BOTP) folks.  It’s been nice to see that some people will stick around to cheer some us BOTP as we cross the finish line.

Q: How has running changed your life?

A:It’s given me confidence to know that my body is amazing!  That I also have the mental capacity to do the physically hard stuff.

Q: Favorite post run food?

A: I love to have a cold chocolate milk after a race.

Q: Favorite race/course?

A: I like Burke Lake, but recently enjoyed the Neabsco course a lot.

Q: Favorite parts of an event or things you look forward to at one of our events?

A: I enjoy seeing people reach their milestone achievements. I’m just over 50 races and look forward to eventually getting to 100 lifetime races for the jacket and black Bishop award.
