Our 2023 May Runner Spotlight is on Dave Kegel.  Dave was active predominately in baseball, basketball, and tennis growing up and through high school. He started running after college to stay healthy and to have fun with his daughters at 5Ks they could all participate in. Dave has run two marathons including the San Diego Rock-n-Roll and the Marine Corps. He has also competed in the Greenwich CT and Lincoln Park NJ biathlons.  Dave enjoyed reading ‘Born To Run’ by Christopher McDougall.  Running Bishop’s events is always fun because of the changing race locations and varied course levels.  Dave’s goal is to hit 100 Bishop races. (~70 completed so far with Lake Accotink being the fastest and Dirt Farm the slowest).

What was your most embarrassing running experience?

Dave: Although I have the finishers medal, when I ran Marine Corps marathon I forget to attach the chip so there is no official record of me competing/finishing.

What events do you remember most with your daughters?

Dave: Tenafly and Closter NJ 5Ks and competing alongside my youngest daughter in the Demarest Triathlon (she was 10 at the time)

Other running experiences to share?

Dave: As an alumni event, a bunch of my college friends meet up once a year in Dewey Beach where we all run the Seven Sisters 5K.

Come join Dave at an upcoming run!
