Our 2024 April Runner Spotlight is on the Sherri McCray!  We interviewed her below.

1. When did you start running? Why did you start running?
A: I just started running last year at 50 years old.  I started running after losing 160 lbs.  I have always wanted to run but being overweight held me back.  When I finally got healthy & put myself first, I just signed up to see if I could actually do it. Now it's turned into an addiction.

2. How many events a year do you typically do? A: It hasn't even been a full year yet since I started but I'd say 50-75 events a year probably. 3. Most embarrassing running experience? or biggest accomplishment? A: I think my biggest accomplishment so far is completing my first 10k run & finishing within an hour & a half.  Now I have a base time to try to beat.  4. Something we should know about you?  A: Something you should know about me. I have 4 amazing & beautiful grandchildren who I am so proud of & I love showing them that they can do anything they want to if they try & never give up. I want to be a positive influence & be a good role model for them as well. I love paddleboarding whenever I can. I love running & finding all these new places where I can do both in the same day. 5. If you could run any race, what would it be?  A: I don't really have a dream race or haven't even thought about it.  I just appreciate being able to do these 5 & 10k runs with Bishops.  I think eventually being able to say I've run a 5k in all 50 states would be pretty awesome.  That's probably my lifetime goal. 6. What keeps you coming back for more of our events? A: I am so glad that I found this organization & this wonderful community of fellow runners.  I keep signing up for more races because I feel welcomed & not judged by anyone. It's a great way for me to get out & get off the couch & move & do something productive. 7. How has running changed your life? A: Running has changed my life for the better & has shown me that I am much more capable of anything I could ever imagine. 8. Favorite post run food? A: When I get home my post race food is scrambled eggs with spinach & mushrooms topped with shredded cheese.  Yummmm. 9. Favorite race/course? A: I don't really have a favorite course.  I like them all & how everyone is just a bit different & challenging in their own way. 10. Favorite parts of an event or things you look forward to at one of our events? A: Every race is a new run for me & I look forward to challenging myself & improving on my time from the previous one.  It's always been me vs. me. I love the friends I've made & the fun times of just talking before & after a race with them.  Truly an honor to be a part of the Bishop's Running crew.
