2025 Miles for Melanoma 5k

Come join us for the DC Miles for Melanoma 5k!  Site opens @ 7:30am, with opening ceremonies starting at 8:30am.  Race is at 9am.  Closing ceremonies at 10am.

Charity Information

The Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) is the largest independent organization devoted to melanoma. Committed to the support of medical research in finding effective treatments and eventually a cure for melanoma, the MRF also educates patients and physicians about prevention, diagnosis and the treatment of melanoma. The MRF is an active advocate for the melanoma community, helping to raise awareness of this disease and the need for a cure. The MRF’s website is the premier source for melanoma information seekers.

 

Race Start Times

5k – 9am

 

Registration Fees

5k runner – $40 (until 4/30); $45 (day of registration)

5k runner youth (12&under) – $20

5k walker – $35 (until 4/30); $40 (day of registration)

5k walker youth (12&under) – $20

Regular rate registration will close Wednesday, April 30 at 11:59 pm.  The MRF team will offer on-site registration on event day but you & your team are encouraged to sign up early!

All in-person registrants will receive our 2025 Miles for Melanoma UPF50+ Coolibar race shirt!

*children under the age of 3 are not required to register for this event.

Live Race Results

Live results will be posted on Athlinks.com.  Additionally, there will be a QR code at the race for you to scan to immediately view your results.  Final race results with series points will be posted to our website on the Monday following your race.

Runner tracking is now available when you sign up for a race with Bishop’s Events. Click on the green SMS button (see example below) at the end of your registration and have your race updates sent to your mobile device as well as those of your friends & family so they can track your race progress.

 

Awards

We award the top 3 men and women overall during our awards ceremony post-race.  We also award the 1st & 2nd place Male and Female in these categories: 19&Under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, & 70+.  Runners who place top 3 overall in their race are not eligible to also win their age groups.

 

Photos

We will post any photos taken by staff on our Facebook page by Tuesday after the event.

On Tuesdays, we pick our favorite Instagram or Facebook post from the previous race weekend.  The winner will receive 50% off a future race!  Make sure to tag us in your race photos at:

Packet Pickup

Packet pickup is available at the event.  We recommend arriving one hour before your event start time to check-in.

 

Race Day Registration

There will be race day registration. Participants will need to arrive approximately one hour before the race to register for the event. T-shirts sizes cannot be guaranteed for race day registers.

 

Water Stations

Two water stations will be along the 5k course at approximately mile marker .5 & 2.6. Gatorade will be available at some water stations.  Water stations are subject to change as deemed necessary.

 

Restrooms

Port-a-johns will be available at the start/finish area.

 

Volunteers

Volunteers should arrive approximately 60 minutes before the first race kicks off.  We will assign volunteer tasks on race morning (water station, course marshals, finish line support, etc).  You can find parking information under “Directions to Parking” with a latitude and longitude pin for where to meet.

 

Weather Policy

Miles for Melanoma is a rain or shine 5K event. The safety of our participants and attendees are our top priority and on-site MRF staff will make the call to delay an event start time or cancel an event-on-event day. This information will be communicated to all registered participants on event day via email.

Use 355 Water St. SE, Washington DC 20003 for directions to Yards Park.

Paid parking is available at lots adjacent to Yards Park and Capital Riverfront. Click here for directions.

All in-person attendees are responsible for their own transportation to and from the 5K event. The MRF team will provide information to the public regarding the venue’s recommended parking locations, if applicable.
